This is a classic composition with the trunk of the tree placed almost exactly on the right third, the unbalanced tones adding to the sense of dramatic tension.
There is a wonderful sense of dynamic movement within the photograph, created by the strong, black line of the branch leading in from the top centre of the frame, drawing the eye into the picture and around the tree, yet always inexorably back towards the sun streaming through the gap in the trunk.
The polarized sky serves to provide the perfect background for those incredible frosted branches; this is the aspect that marks this image out as something extraordinary, a true indication that this is the work of a technically skilled and creative artist with a unique talent.

Voici donc une de tes géniales photos que je redécouvre en quelque sorte à l'occasion de cette DD...
Tout d'abord je ne pense pas que la vision particulière que tu places en chaque photo nécessites d'être présentée à nouveau. L'inspiration t'a vraisemblablement poussé une fois de plus à réaliser un cliché époustouflant.
De par la composition, et un cadrage parfait, je perçois la sensation que tu veux nous donner de l'hiver. En arrière-plan, le brouillard apparaît presque come une avalanche, immense et malgré tout intangible, qui envolppe tout. Ce n'est sûrement pas ce sur quoi on s'attarde, mais en opposition avec le dédale de branches tortueuses qui forme une bonne partie de l'image, l'ensemble reste très harmonieux je pense. Voici pour l'impact.
Concernant l'originalité, c'est dur de donner cinq étoiles. Le sujet, l'arbre, est sans aucun doute époustouflant, avec la glace recouvrant son écorce. Mais ce n'est pas poutant un genre de photo totalement nouveau...
Enfin, d'un point de vue technique, je pense qu'il n'y a rien à redire. Tu maîtrises parfaitement tes outils, et on peut sûrement dire que tu en tires le maximum.
Donc félicitations pour la DD, et continue de nous impressionner avec tes photos de nature !
Here's a great picture of yours I kind of discover again with your DD...
First of all, I don't think the peculiarity of the vision you put in every picture needs any more introduction. It seems that inspiration once more made you take this stunning shot.
Through the composition, and a perfect framing, I can sense the feeling you want to give us about Winter. in the background, the fog appears almost like an avalanche, huge yet intangible, overflowing everything. It's probably not what we focus on, but in opposition with the maze of twisted branches which forms most of the foreground, the whole thing is very harmonious I think. Here's for the impact.
Concerning originality, it's hard to give five stars. The subject, the tree, is with no doubt amazing, with ice covering its bark. Yet it is not a brand new idea either for a picture.
Finally, about the technique, I think there is nothing to say. You perfectly master your tools, and one could say you take the best out of them.
So, congratulations for the DD, and keep us bewildered with your nature shots !
